STRATFORD JAZZ
05 Sept - Pedalmania trio. £6 on door.
John Paul Gard (organ) Ben Waghorn (s) Eddie John (d).
No strangers to Stratford Jazz this exhilarating trio never fails to excite. A mix of Jimmy Smith and Jaco Pastorius with a dash of Spike Jones, resting on top of the finest choice of funky grooves.
12 Sept - Duets for Django. £8 on door
Paul Vernon Chester (g) Nick Mellor (g).
There can be no doubt that Paul Vernon Chester is one of the world’s finest Gypsy Jazz guitarists. His playing in the Django tradition is warm, open-hearted and high octane! A superb technician with excellent rhythmic support from Nick Mellor.
19 Sept - Partikel trio. £6 on door.
Duncan Eagles (s) Max Luthert (b) Eric Ford (d).
When Duncan Eagles last visited Stratford Jazz with the Jazz Funk Collective many of us believed that here was a saxophonist destined for great things. His new trio aims to put an interesting twist on the standard jazz format but still honouring the tradition of deep harmony, creative invention and interaction. Three first class musicians with different backgrounds coming together to make music mixing all their favourite genres in a melodic, coherent and accessible way.
26 Sept - Dominic Norcross Quartet. £6 on door.
Dominic Norcoss (s) Johnny Davies (g) Wayne Wallow (b) Nigel Williams (d)
Digby Fairweather once remarked that, “On stage with Dominic is like having Zoot Sims next to you.” Praise indeed and not misplaced. Dominic leads a wonderful straight-ahead swinging jazz group which will quickly endear him to any jazz audience.
